music lessons

Everyone knows how much music plays a part in the Christian life. We tend to believe what we sing, so make sure the songs we’re singing are truly belief-worthy and won’t leave us bereft of depth. Part of spiritual growth is understanding this relationship of music to faith: it’s a power-punch melodious mixture. Too much sweet and not enough salt, too little rise or not enough depth; those cookies won’t survive!

Imagine every meal were a plate of brownies. I suppose the first one would be serendipitous. But then think about the second meal and then the third and then . . . . what’s that green-faced emoji?! Or what if every meal was a hamburger? Good morning, breakfast! Then lunch, then supper, then every day of your life? (yea, vegetarian be lookin’ up!)

Look, take a good look at your selection of Christian music sometime. Besides pointing you to Christ (read Colossians 3 with your Christocentric bifocals) much of it can also reflect the variety in the 88 keys. If you’re ready to expand your music library, I’ve got a few suggestions. Check out CityAlight Music all the way from Sydney Australia. Then give a listen to the Shiloh Church Choir on their CD entitled Behold Our God. Or try hiding God’s Word in your heart through music from The Corner Room. Maybe it’s time for a break from the constant stream of music and you need to find solace in the singing of your church’s congregation, which IMHO can become the better kind of music.

  1. I read another blurb about music this week. Maybe I should pay attention! Always appreciate your words!! And I also am moved by the Collingsworth family!
