It started tonight. Really great method of doing a Bible study: journibling, i.e. hand writing your own copy of the Bible. Special thanks to Rob Wynalda for finding this little nugget of biblical goodness in Deuteronomy 17:18 about the kings of Israel having to write a copy of the Law for their own learning and growing. This becomes the method for our Bible study today…..for the guys to make their own copy of 1 & 2 Thessalonians. The Israelite kings would grow in their love for God through this process. It’s our desire as well, to grow closer to the Lord through the study of God’s Word by means of writing our own copy.
As we progress (over the next 6 weeks), I plan to make notes here and post our progress of what we’re learning and how we’re growing. You’re welcome to follow along as well. You might even want to join us sometime……we meet at Calvary on Thursday nights at 7pm. IMHO, I rather enjoy this method of Bible study; it’s incredibly tactile. My brain and my hand are linked together both physically and psychologically. Learning for life change is greatly enhanced through this process, and it makes Bible study nourishing and memorable.
So tonight, we began with an introduction to the concept of journibling. We also touched briefly on 1 Thessalonians and the context of the ancient town of Thessalonica (read Acts 17:1-10) along with mentioning the idea of memorizing some of the text we’ll be writing. I’ll look forward to writing more posts as we go along this journey. You’re welcome to join us!
