let there be camp!

This week I’ve been leading songs for Shiloh Kids Camp at Kirkmont Center just outside Zanesfield, OH. I’ve grown up having attended camp most of my life. It’s the place where spirituality comes to life!

Let me rephrase: It is THE place where the Spirit-filled life comes alive!

For those who haven’t experienced it, church camp is loaded with fun games, good food, Bible studying and great singing. Oh yea, and you’ll meet wonderful people there, too, who love the Lord and love introducing kids like you and me to the Lord as well. I had the privilege to serve as a counselor at Scioto Hills Camp wa-a-ay back in the 90’s (circa 1997). Hands down, BEST. SUMMER. EVER. I was able to introduce several campers to the Lord Jesus and welcome them into the Family of God.

Wow, what an experience!!

Now that I’m O.L.D. …I get to watch from a different vantage point. It’s the POV that sees the value in kids hanging out with each other sans technology, without the comforts of home, hanging out with some bugs and making some new friends, hearing that same sweet Gospel message (it never changes and it never gets old!).

So, we’ll be outside tonight again, singing God’s praises around the campfire and wrapping our hearts around His Word. Pray for those kids (‘tweens, mind you!) and me as we enjoy one of the great growing moments in the Christian life: CAMP!
